At today’s White House tribute to the world champion New York Yankees, President Barack Obama took time to single out the off-the-field work of New York Yankee All-Star catcher Jorge Posada and his wife Laura Posada who started the not-for-profit Jorge Posada Foundation. The Foundation provides support to families and children who are affected by the medical condition of Craniosynostosis, a birth defect that causes an abnormally shaped skull.
“Our Foundation,” said Laura Posada, President and Co-Founder of the Jorge Posada Foundation, ‘is dedicated to creating public awareness, outreach and education about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of Craniosynostosis. A significant portion of the monies we raise goes to benefit Craniofacial Centers throughout the nation. We are very pleased and honored that the President took time to publicly recognize the important work that our Foundation provides nationally and internationally.”
“I want to express my sincere thanks to President Obama for recognizing the work of our Foundation said Jorge Posada, Co-Founder of the Jorge Posada Foundation. “The work of our Foundation is rooted in Laura’s and my own personal experience with the medical condition of Craniosynostosis, which affects thousands of families globally. Our son, Jorge Luis, was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis when he was just ten days old and has undergone eight major surgeries to correct the condition.”
The Foundation also has developed a Mentors Network, where volunteers that have experienced Craniosynostosis in their families are recruited and then partnered with those families seeking help and support. Mentors are currently located in 24 different states throughout the nation.
The Posada Family strongly believes that they were touched by Craniosynostosis so that they could make a difference.
